Fighting illiteracy in Brazil

Alfabetização Solidária is an organization which was originally conceived by Dr. Ruth Cardoso, the late Brazilian former First lady. It works for reducing the high rates of illiteracy and has been operating since January 1997. In 2005, it received the “Citizenship Award” by the BNP Paribas Brazil Foundation.
