One of the nation’s largest food banks, the Food Bank for New York City provides 400,000 free meals a day to New Yorkers in need. BNP Paribas has worked with the organization since 2008.
Following the success of BNP Paribas’ annual holiday food drive to benefit the Food Bank, we expanded our volunteer work with the organization in 2012. Throughout the year, volunteers have travelled to the Food Bank’s warehouse in Hunts Point in the Bronx to help sort, weigh, package, and ship thousands of pounds of donated food items.
BNP Paribas employees have also helped organize donations and serve food at the Food Bank’s Community Kitchen & Food Pantry located on 116th Street in Harlem. This full-service program of the Food Bank for New York City generates approximately 79,000 free meals every month.
The Harlem location is also the site of the BNP Paribas Herb Garden. Since 2009, the Garden has been home to various herbs and vegetables that our employees proudly tend to during regular “Thirsty Thursday” events. Employees help harvest, weed, and water plants that supply the Food Bank with fresh herbs. The Community Kitchen & Pantry offers the fresh herbs and vegetables in their supermarket-style food pantry.
The Food Bank events have not only served as gratifying volunteer work for our employees but as opportunities for team building for different groups within the Bank.
