Close to 20 BNP Paribas Hong Kong employees and their family members made their weekend more meaningful and vibrant by participating as volunteers for the organisation A Drop of Life on 25 July. The occasion was “Flag day”, a popular fundraising technique for charitable organisations in Hong Kong. Flag days for various causes can be organised on Wednesdays or Saturdays, and they involve volunteers who collect money from people on the street. In return, donors receive a sticker, or “flag”, bearing the name of the organisation they supported, to show their generosity.

A Drop of Life is a non-profit organisation founded and registered in Hong Kong. Since 2004, the organisation has been actively involved in water cellar projects, or underground water storage tanks that store rainwater. This fresh water is then distributed to remote districts in northwest China, one of the driest regions in the world, where drinking water is scarce.

Proceeds collected from this Flag Day will be used on their poverty alleviation programmes in the isolated mountain areas in Gansu and Ningxia of China as well as their services for the elderly in Hong Kong.
