The Dragon Boat Festival, held on 23 June, is one of the highlights of the Chinese Lunar Calendar.  Hongkongers usually celebrate with family reunions and by eating lots of traditional dumplings.

This year, 47 staff members and their families celebrated this special day by visiting the elderly, living alone, in often impoverished circumstances.

Organised by the Hong Kong Staff Club and St James Settlement, staff volunteers visited around 50 homes and care facilities. They prepared gift packs with dumplings and daily necessities, and travelled to a number of locations to share their care and energy with the elderly.  They were appreciative of the company, and many stories were exchanged.

The conversations not only brought much joy and warmth on this special day, but also helped remind our hosts of their place in the community.
