The Essalam Culture and Sport association, founded in 2005, now has more than 360 members and 20 employees who oversee its wide range of activities.

It pursues several objectives: to develop a community spirit and a sense of solidarity among its citizens; to fight against illiteracy, and to raise public awareness about health-related issues.

Essalam Culture and Sport organises summer camps and excursions for children and pensioners, as well as educational and cultural activities. It also organised a Traditional Folklore Festival for two years, and a cultural competition for students from 7 primary schools. As for sports, it coordinates, among other events, a football training camp and a number of table football tournaments in the month August and throughout the holy month of Ramadan. And it aims to provide as much assistance as possible to residents of the poorest neighbourhoods.

For instance, in collaboration with the BMCI Foundation, the association organised an operation to distribute backpacks and school supplies for secondary school to children from disadvantaged families for the past four years. His Majesty King Mohamed VI of Morocco emphasised, with respect to the operation: “This initiative embraces the broader vision that drives a societal projects, a model built on the principles of political democracy, economic efficiency, social cohesion and labour, but also on the possibility given to each one of us to flourish by using his or her potential abilities to the full.”

It is as part of this balanced and future-oriented vision that Essalam Culture and Sport fights against poverty and social inequality, with the aim of ensuring a better distribution of the benefits of growth and improving the living conditions of Morocco’s citizens.
