“The Nubian Vault” is an organization that provides an alternative to the rare wood and inappropriate sheet metal that usually constitute the roofs of the houses in Sub-Saharan Africa.
They employ an ancient African technique to construct timber-free vaulted roofs made of clay. In doing so, they are able to use local raw materials instead of importing them, and local manpower to get the community members involved. They work together to improve the living conditions, house by house.
According to Thomas Granier, a French mason and the President of the organization, “Our goal is to have a positive effect on as many people as possible as quickly as possible at the lowest possible cost…” Find out how they achieve it on this week’s BlogTV!
The Nubian Vault is supported by the BNP Paribas Foundation’s Coup de Pouce Programme.
