ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project was designed to support the not-for-profit association, PLAN (www.planfrance.org), through which a number of BNP Paribas employees act as sponsors for disadvantaged children. Our project consists of providing support through a unique artistic endeavour. Employees of the CIB (Corporate & Investment Banking) entity, with support from Retail Banking (Multimedia), have composed and written not just a song, but a veritable hymn for the PLAN association. The song is mostly in English, but incorporates several other languages as well.
The lyrics have been approved by the association, and reflect the ethics and the message that PLAN wishes to share. All rights in the song will be given to the association before the song is distributed, reflecting our sincere commitment to this effort. We also hope – and this is a first – to create a combined corporate and musical film that uses our song to highlight the association’s message of support for disadvantaged children in the continents where PLAN operates (Africa, Latin America and Asia). It’s a profound and artistic production with a real message of goodwill and tolerance. The professionals and artists, some well-known, who have worked with us to create this project have become thoroughly involved and have given us real advice – not just compliments – about the song and about the need to include visual elements. The families of BNP Paribas employees and their children have also contributed by writing poetry, drawing pictures and more, to give as gifts to these disadvantaged children.
It’s important to know that all of the people who participated did so as volunteers, and used their lunch breaks to attend rehearsals … some volunteers were nervous about being filmed, but they went ahead with it in order to support the association!
WHAT IS THE PLAN ASSOCIATION?
PLAN is a child-centred community development organisation, with no political, religious or governmental affiliations.
PLAN’s vision is of a world in which all children can develop their potential in societies that respect the rights and the dignity of individuals.
PLAN acts to promote children’s rights as defined by the 1989 International Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by 192 countries.
PLAN is also an expert advisor to UNICEF and to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
Here are some of the statistics that that inspired us to develop this project, which has cost us so little but is worth so much more: There are
- more than 143 million orphans in the world
- more than 100 million abandoned children living on the streets
- more than one billion people across the world suffering from hunger
