Alessandra Sanguinetti was born in New York in 1968, brought up in Argentina from 1970 to 2003, and is currently based back in New York. She is a recipient of a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship and a Hasselblad Foundation grant. Her book, “On the Sixth Day,” was published by Nazraeli Press in January 2006. She has photographed for such publications as The New York Times Magazine, LIFE, Newsweek, and New York Magazine.
For BNP Paribas’ 150 Years in India celebration, Sanguinetti chose to document the role of women in Bollywood today. Up until the 1990s, the only women on set were actresses and their hairdressers and make-up artists; today, one of the most famous directors in the film industry is a woman. On Farah Khan’s film set, Sanguinetti captures a portrait of the feminine presence behind the scenes.
