Since late July, heavy monsoon rains have triggered flash floods in Pakistan, affecting more than 15 million people according to the UN. The Global Red Cross and Red Crescent network is quadrupling its emergency activities in response to the country’s worst flooding in more than 80 years.

As a part of this effort, the American Red Cross has promised $1 million to help Pakistani families meet their most critical needs, and BNP Paribas in the United States will support these efforts through an “employee matching program”. The bank will match the donations of individual U.S.-based employees to the American Red Cross of all amounts up to $500.

The American Red Cross works shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters, supplies nearly half of the nation’s blood, teaches lifesaving skills, provides international humanitarian aid, and supports military members and their families. It is a part of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the world’s largest humanitarian organization with 186 member National Societies.

Anyone can donate to the cause through the Red Cross to support Pakistan relief and development.
