BNP Paribas Real Estate has shown its commitment to helping beat blood cancer by announcing a two year charity partnership with Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research in the UK.

The commercial property company has a series of fundraising events planned in order to raise a substantial amount for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research – the only UK charity dedicated to research into blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

A selection of senior directors have each been given £100 (117 euros) to turn into as much money as possible by any means. Enlisting the help of their teams, the ‘Charity Challenge’ will see them competing against each other over three months, until the end of June, to be named top fundraiser.

Traditional fundraising activities such as cake baking, quiz nights and auctions are also planned. The company has also set up a scheme so that old mobile phones and BlackBerry devices donated by staff can be recycled to raise cash.

The group also plans to join Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research’s TVTimes running team and enter marathons, half marathons and fun runs across the country throughout the year.  David Furniss, head of group’s Newcastle office, has already entered into the fundraising spirit by pledging to raise £5,000 (5,865 euros) for the charity by cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats in June, while City investment director Paul Henwood has held three silent auctions of lots donated by clients and local businesses and is building up an impressive total.

Mark England, CEO at BNP Paribas Real Estate, says: “Our employees overwhelmingly voted for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research as our chosen charity for 2010 and 2011.  We are all enjoying working in partnership to raise as much money as possible for this very worthwhile cause, while also having some fun in the process.”

Kate White, Director of Fundraising at Leukaemia & Lymphoma, said: “It’s really great that we are supporting Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. This year is our 50th anniversary and BNP Paribas Real Estate staff are already helping to make it our best year yet. “

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research was previously known as Leukaemia Research. The charity, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2010, has changed its name to raise awareness of its longstanding commitment to research into all the blood cancers, including lymphoma and myeloma – not just leukaemia.
