The BICIS is taking part in an awareness campaign about pollution by the use of plastic bags, supporting an association called the Collective 13NRV.
In Senegal, as in many other countries, plastic bags are a source of considerable pollution. It only takes a second to make them. On average, individuals use them for 20 minutes while their life cycle, since they are not biodegradable, varies between 100 and 400 years. Their production-based oil and water causes greenhouse gas emissions and also contributes to the degradation of landscape. It also leads to an increase in the mortality rate of animals on the ground, in the air and in the sea, who can suffocate on the bags.
Strong with its commitment, BICIS will be using only paper bags in its communication activities.
The awareness campaign includes a Collective 13NRV media campaign, the production of a booklet on the dangers of plastic bags and organizing concerts with artist Mao Ottayeck.
