A violent 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti on the night of the 12th and 13th of January 2010, More than 120,000 victims were counted. Hundreds of thousands of people aere affected and need aid. Swiss Solidarity started a donation that same morning and on the 21st of January organised a national day of solidarity, and so far has received 25 million Swiss francs.

Swiss Solidarity (in Switzerland) hosts the most important platform based on humanitarianism and solidarity, and assures the redistribution of 100% of the donations collected for:
• Projects for emergency support and aid
• Partner charities already on the scene
• Long-term reconstruction projects
Swiss Solidarity mainly supports partner organizations whose professionalism, thoroughness and responsiveness on the field have already been proven in similar contexts, such as the tsunami in 2004. These associations include:
- Swiss Caritas
- Swiss Red Cross
- Enfants du Monde (Children of the world)
- Médecins du Monde (Doctors of the World)
- Médecins sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders)
Through this selection of associations, donors are assured that the management costs of the projects do not exceed 10%.
