For its 16th annual event, La Folle Journée de Nantes – the largest classical music festival in France, held in Nantes and named after “The Marriage of Figaro” (the alternative French title of which is “La Folle Journée,” or “The Crazy Day”) – is paying tribute to Frédéric Chopin, one of the greatest romantic composers of the 19th century, on the 200th anniversary of his birth.
From 27 to 31 January 2010, René Martin, the artistic director of La Folle Journée, will present Chopin’s complete works for piano. Expressing an infinite variety of emotions and feelings in a language accessible to the broadest possible range of people, Chopin’s work is also among the most modern of classical compositions, both in inspiration and in compositional style.

“Music is something that sets us all free; it is a dynamic force in society. It is an indispensable forger of social ties – a tool for education and an essential component in the fight against inequality,” said Jean-Marc Ayrault, Deputy Mayor of Nantes. With more than 280 concerts over the course of five days, La Folle Journée de Nantes is a must for music lovers.
An official partner since the creation of the festival, BNP Paribas and its Foundation are offering individuals a chance to test their knowledge of Chopin and win tickets to a concert at La Folle Journée de Nantes!
