Operation Smile is active across the planet with the goal of transforming the lives of children by healing their smiles. They work worldwide to repair childhood facial deformities by delivering safe, effective surgical care directly to patients. Created in 1999, the association Operation Smile Peru (OSP) is a private non-profit company. Their mission is to coordinate local and international missions and provide necessary economic and human resources to take care of patients with cleft lips/palates. OSP currently has a team of health professional who voluntarily provide their services across Peru.

OSP changes the lives of individuals with facial deformities through reconstructive surgery and provides rehabilitation programs as well. This is done with the support of medical and non-medical volunteers and financial aid from corporations and the general public. OSP believes nobody in Peru should have to live with an easily correctable deformity.

Cardif Peru began working with Operation Smile in early 2009 and has been involved in a number of projects and initiatives: In June 2009 they collaborated on a small mission where 50 children went through operations and rehabilitation. During this mission employees volunteered to help fill out registration forms, attend and watch over the children, wash dirty clothes, and even deliver medicine!

On Wednesday, October 27 2009 a campaign, “wooden spoon“, was started. Along with spreading the word to other companies throughout the building, groups of 3 to 5 people donated meals that were sold to all people who visited Cardif during the day and wanted to help in the noble cause. The money collected was donated to OSP to help carry out the medical operations.

On Friday October 30, a group of 8 people from Cardif had the opportunity to participate with other companies of the International Mission OSP. On this day, about 115 children from all over Peru came to Lima to undergo operations. Employees helped the children through the process of the day, gaining their trust and making them as comfortable as possible.
