Arval, an international subsidiary of BNP Paribas and a specialist in long-term car leasing and fleet management, is the second largest leasing company in Europe.
Given the 130,000 accidents that occur on European roads each year, Arval, which has a presence in 18 European countries, wished to make a commitment to improving road safety.
How? By signing, on July 8th, 2009 in London, The European Charter “25,000 lives to save”. This Road Safety Charter is part of a vast programme of measures initiated by the European Commission in 2004. The aim is to reduce the number of fatalities occurring each year on European roads by half; that is, reducing the number of victims from 50,000 to 25,000.
This ambitious project has more than 1,400 signatories, including associations, companies and various institutions, all of which have decided to adopt 10 resolutions: to ensure more driver-focused training, to work in cooperation with the competent bodies for road safety in a bid to gain a better understanding of the causes of accidents and to try to prevent them, to make the reduction in road accidents a main objective… measures that Arval is now adopting in order to become a major contributor to the improvement of road safety.
