On the occasion of the Neighbors’ Day, which was celebrated on May 26th in many cities around France and Europe, BNP Paribas was an official partner of Immeubles en Fête (Apartment Block Party).

As part of this initiative, around 900 BNP Paribas branches offered a “coffee with the neighbors” which provided an ideal opportunity for neighbours, professionals, young or retired, to discuss various topics with BNP Paribas employees.

Neighbors’ day has a short history, but its popularity is growing rapidly. It was first celebrated in 1999, when the Paris d’Amis association, set up by a group of Parisian friends, launched Neighbors Day celebrations in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. Back then, 800 apartment buildings and 10,000 inhabitants took part.
In 2000, thanks to the support of the Mayors of France Association, 30 city councils were able to sponsor the event.
In 2003, Immeubles en Fête took on an international dimension and Neighbors’ Day parties were held in Belgium and in 10 other European cities. These first European-wide celebrations involved 3 million participants.

On last year’s Neighbors’ Day, over 8 million Europeans took part in the celebrations. The participants included 6 million people from 602 towns and social housing developments throughout France, as well as residents of 357 towns and cities across Europe.
Neighbours’ Day celebrations, vast gathering of citizens in France and throughout Europe, provide an opportunity for people to meet their neighbours in an informal and friendly ambiance. This event is an occasion to organise a party and get to know people who are around us.
