Following the terrible earthquake that affected Italy in early April, employees of BNL, a subsidiary of BNP Paribas, generously and spontaneously took a number of steps to help.
A crisis committee was immediately set up, initially to identify employees affected by the quake, and then to provide practical and psychological assistance. The bank bore the cost of putting people up in hotels and provided a doctor and a psychologist.
BNL supports the donation of charitable funds through the initiative set up by the Italian Banking Association and the labour unions. Bank employees can make 10-euro donations to assist victims of the quake, debited directly from the employees’ salaries, through the National Fund for Charitable Activities in the Credit Sector. All transfers sent from personal bank accounts to the BNL accounts of the Italian Red Cross and/or the Civil Protection Service are free of commission, as are all banking transactions made on behalf of victims of the earthquake. The City of Aquila and its inhabitants remain in shock, and key components of the city’s infrastructure are still lacking. The region still needs everyone’s help and generosity.
