Sylvie Blanchard, president of Gloria
On the occasion an exchange program and two trips to Togo, Sylvie Blanchard, financial advisor of BNP Paribas France, and her husband came across the project of a creation of a school. Touched by the energy and will of the local people, they decide to devote themselves to help realize this project. They have thus created the association Gloria in1999.
She shared with us the story of her association:
“Gloria is an association, which was started by two people, my husband and myself. We went to Togo to visit a friend, and Came across a project of local people who were trying to build a school from scratch. Upon our return, we told ourselves that we must try to help them. The BNP Paribas Foundation accepted our project and helped us with financial support, which allowed us to build the school, and afterwards, start working on a library. Last year, we went back to Togo and saw that it was indeed,a very nice school which provides the children with good learning environment. At the beginning, there were only 23 students attending the classes. Today there are 330.”
Thanks to the Helping Hand program of the BNP Paribas Foundation and to various initiatives organized to collect donations, the association Gloria was able to help construct a library in the school of Gloria, which inspired the name of the foundation. In addition, it also donated computers, books, and school materials.
In the future, the association hopes to be able to finialize the library, continue the supply of materials to the computer room and develop a scholarship program for 8 students.
