For more than two years now, Cardif Taiwan has been participating in the “Hope Reading Program”. In October 2007, we began to sponsor “Zhong-Jiao” elementary school, one out of the 100 elementary schools selected by Common Wealth Magazine Education Foundation, the most influential books publisher group in Taiwan, who is also the organizer of this program.

Later on in Oct. 2008, we added two more schools -”Ping-Deng” and “Bai-Ji” to our sponsorship list.

The philosophy of t The “Hope Reading Program” is that reading is the kernel for education and learning. In order to maintain the basic right of reading for these children coming out of poor families, we need to stimulate their interest in reading .The students’ reading capability in these elementary schools is in a really disadvantaged position due to the location of the schools. They are situated between city and mountain area. Our government do provide extra resource and support to the kids, who live in the mountain area. However city kids, without doubt, always have the most resources, so the kids who live in-between city and mountain will hardly get enough resource to stimulate their reading capability.

Most of the parents of the children attending these schools leave for city to work for good and leave their children in the home-town to their grand parents. The grandparents, often times poor, weak, or illiterate, find themselves in difficulty to help children’s reading capability.

The Common Wealth Magazine Education Foundation provides books and pays traffic expense to college student volunteers to the sponsored schools by the annual sponsorship to each school. We at Cardif Taiwan sponsor their activity in 3 schools and have also made additional donations of money from charity sales. Many people among Cardif Staff have also visited the schools.

Today more than 100 schools and more than 30 Taiwan corporations participate in the program.
