Glenn Anderson, David O’Flynn and Timothy Parker from BNP Paribas Corporate and Investment Banking team in London provide ceaseless support to their friend and colleague Stuart Mangan, who has been paralysed since  April 5th, 2008.

The victim of a catastrophic rugby injury, Stuart is completely paralyzed from the neck down and unable to breathe without a ventilator. “This is the worst cord injury which can occur in sport,” explained Dr. Fred Middleton of the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in London.

By participating in the London to Paris cycle race on 25-27 June 2009, Glen, David and Timothy hope to raise € 25,000 to help Stuart finance his very costly treatment.

The website http://www.mycharity.ie/event/london2paris4stuart, which is dedicated to raising funds on Stuart’s behalf,  as of today has collected, € 13,730. The donations come from all around the world, not only from Stuart’s friends and colleagues but also from many anonymous donors. The donations are accompanied by messages of encouragement, often moving and a few showing a sense of humour.

This is a common practice in Anglo-Saxon countries: people set challenges, often athletic, to raise public awareness for a cause. The challenge mirrors Stuart’s career, as he spent much of his time studying in Paris and worked for BNP Paribas in London. It also reflects Stuart’s enthusiasm for sport, hard work and his appetite for success in life.

The final word comes from an anonymous donor: “Stuart, you have such great friends! I hope this is helping you through this difficult time.’’
