For the third consecutive year now, BNP Paribas Luxembourg will take part in the Relay for Life on 28th and 29th March. This event, organised by the Luxembourg Foundation for Cancer Research, will help boost research into fighting this disease, which is the leading cause of premature death in the world today.
The World Health Organisation is hardly optimistic when it comes to the rate at which this scourge is growing: cancer will be the cause of nearly 84 million deaths globally between 2005 and 2015 unless the treatments now being developed are perfected and made accessible to the greatest number of people possible.
It is precisely to prevent such numbers from being reached that 30 employees (the maximum number that can register for any one team) have mobilised to form a Master Team. All of them will gather on a racetrack to run for between 30 minutes and an hour at various times throughout the day. The registration fees for the event will be used to fund further research which should lead to the improvement of available treatments and to their dissemination.
In addition to a sporting challenge, this event will offer workshops and forums about the disease and the different means that exist today for confronting it. It will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the disease. It would also remind people that the probability of contracting cancer can be considerably reduced if we lead a healthy lifestyle that combines sensible eating with regular physical activity. So, eat a balanced diet and do some exercise without exhausting yourself, and you’ll have less chance of being affected by the disease!
