“Bringing the warmth of human contact to end-of-life care”
Within the framework of its “Helping Hand for Personal Projects” initiative, in which employees are personally involved in projects that help others, the BNP Paribas Foundation has provided support to the JALMAV Loire Océan association (Jusqu’à la Mort Accompagner la Vie or Support Life Until Death), which supports the terminally ill by respecting their individuality and their opinions as well as helping family and friends to cope.
Jacqueline Souron, Account Manager at BNP Paribas Lease Group, was interviewed by RCF radio (Francophone Christian Radio) to introduce JALMAV. She described her own personal investment in the association to help ease the pain and loneliness of the terminally ill.
“Supporting a person at the end of their life can actually take on many different aspects. You can be called upon to accompany a person for several weeks or even months. […] I remember being with an elderly lady for an hour and a half. During our conversation, she told me several times that she might die that very night and, in fact, that is what happened. […] Anyway, it was like a discussion, as if we’d always known one another, although I’d never met her before. I think I was simply there to receive her account of her life.”
